The launcher does not need to edit the registry, it needs a properly installed game. That's all.

The method of detecting a game in other launchers has the right to life, but it is not flexible and imposes restrictions on the user, much more than my method.

I cannot scan the entire user's hard drive in search of a game, or force the launcher to be installed in the game folder. Because the first method is rather stupid, slow and loads the hard drive. The second one is also stupid, because the user can play several games, there is also no need to mix the game files with the launcher files.

The same rules apply to the launcher as to other programs on your computer. I installed the program in any folder that I wanted and at the first start, it can outstrip all three games in a matter of milliseconds.

The registry is centralized access to the data you need.

If there was a better way, I would use it.

And if I haven't convinced you, then maybe ask the creator of the project why things are the way they are ?

Okay, sorry if I sounded ignorant. You said reinstalling the game would work, right? I am not using the game version which was released by  X-NET, I was trying to use another release. I will try to see if that one will work.

This can't be the only way, right? Why does it need it a registry edit if other people can launch it just fine? I am trying to make this "portable", meaning switching it from computer to computer. Is there anyway I can do it without editing the Windows registry?

I get an error while trying to join any server, saying that BF3 can't be found, while it's in the same folder as the game.

Is this because I am using different version I got of Battlefield 3? I am trying to use that (it has all the DLCs and had an older version of zclient which i updated) with this launcher. Is that why it isn't working? Should I just download whatever version from the torrent on here?
